The head grows rounded, but slightly flattened at the top. The average weight of a bulb is 85-120 g. Each head has 5-7 large cloves. The average weight of one clove is 10-12 g. The scales covering the teeth are initially light, but when dry they begin to darken, becoming purple or brown. The planting of seed material of winter garlic should be carried out at the end of September, choosing for this a site on which legumes, cabbage or pumpkin crops were previously grown. Winter garlic feels best in the sun-open beds with light and fertile sandy loam or loamy soil. Seed material selected for planting must be divided into teeth, disinfected by keeping in a saline or manganese solution, and then planted in holes or furrows: with an interval of 10 cm; depth 6 cm; row spacing 25-35 cm.
