Herbaceous perennial with medicinal properties. Plants up to 2 m high. In the first year of life, they form a basal rosette, bloom in the second year. The flowers are fragrant, collected in apical corymbose-paniculate inflorescences. The rhizome and roots have a strong specific odor and a bitter, slightly pungent taste. Fresh leaves are used in cooking as a spicy addition to salads. A medicinal tincture or tea is prepared from the rhizomes of biennial plants, which is used as a sedative for insomnia, various neuroses, spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, and headaches. Sowing seeds in 2 terms: before winter and early spring. They are sown superficially, without embedding, with a constant moisture content before sprouting during spring sowing. Seedlings are thinned in 10-15 cm increments. Valerian prefers humus-rich, well-moistened soils.
