Perennial plant of the Aster family. The bush is 40-60 cm high. The yield of green mass is 9-13 kg / m2. The variety is relatively resistant to root rot damage. The leaves of the plant contain stevioside – the sweetest natural product. In its pure form, it is 300 times sweeter than sugar. Lacking the calorie content and other negative properties of sugar, stevioside is its ideal substitute. Fresh and dried leaves are used in cooking. In the conditions of the middle lane, stevia does not overwinter and is grown as an indoor or as an annual, in a seedling way. The period from sowing to mass harvesting of the leaves is approximately 16-18 weeks. The seedling period is 8-10 weeks. Seeds are sown for seedlings in late March – April. Sow superficially, under glass or film to maintain constant humidity. When the first true leaf appears, the seedlings dive. Hardened seedlings are planted in a permanent place at the end of May – beginning of June, in increments of 20-25 cm. Planting should be placed on soils of light texture, well seasoned with rotted organic matter. The location should be sunny and protected from strong winds. Poorly tolerates drought, needs constantly moist soil, but stagnant moisture is harmful to it. The crop is harvested at the beginning of flowering.
