Radish ‘Red Giant’ is a variety bred by the Far Eastern Experimental Station of the All-Russian Research Institute of Plant Growing. Approved for use in the North-West, Volgo-Vyatka, Central Black Earth, North Caucasian, Middle Volga, East Siberian and Far East regions in 1958. Recommended for outdoor cultivation. The variety is cold-resistant and resistant to flowering. Sizes and growth shape: Representatives of the ‘Red Giant’ variety have an erect or slightly spreading rosette 10-14 cm high, 22-28 cm in diameter, number of leaves 6-12. The leaf is solid, dark green, oblong-oval. The blade is 16–18 cm long, 7–8 cm wide. The surface is slightly wavy with short and sparse pubescence. The petiole is 6–7 cm long, 0.5–0.6 cm thick, red-crimson, with a waxy bloom, without pubescence. Size, shape and color: The root crop is elongated-cylindrical, 12-13 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm in diameter. The color is red with a white-pink transverse groove. The pulp is white, juicy, does not flake for a long time. Root crops are slightly raised above the soil surface. Radish mass 45–80 g. Taste: Root crops have a good and excellent, slightly pungent taste. Ripening and productivity: Red Giant radish belongs to the varieties of medium ripening (mid-ripening). The period from full sprouting to the onset of technical ripeness is 33–42 days. Marketable yield 2.4–4.2 kg / m2. Keeping quality: The crop is characterized by good keeping quality (3-4 months).
