In appearance, the onion is almost no different from the onion, but it forms much powerful leaves in the form of tubes. The bulb is small and not used, oblong-cylindrical, turning into a false stem. In order for the batun onion to develop intensively, it must be placed in the places where cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, and green crops previously grew. The arrangement of the leaves of the variety “Tenderness” is powerful, not spreading, up to 53 cm in height, the height of the false stem is 13 cm. The weight of the plant is 50-60 gr. The yield is 4.2-4.6 kg / m2. For normal onion growth, the batun should be planted on light, fertile loams with neutral acidity. If onions are grown as greens, then the seeds should be sown in early spring or autumn. Seeds are sown in the range of 1-1.5 cm, the seeding depth is 1.5-2 cm, the seeding rate is 1.5 g / m2. After planting the seeds in the ground, they are mulched with humus by 1 – 1.5 cm, and then the soil is pressed a little. Seeds germinate within 11-14 days. After that, young plants are watered, weeded, fed with ash powder and a solution of mineral fertilizer, and the aisles are loosened. After thinning, leave the plants at a distance of about 2-3 cm. Water the onion often, about 3-4 times, 10-20 liters per square meter. For normal and intensive growth, onions must be constantly loosened. Cutting off the finished product or, in other words, harvesting the onion on the “feather” is carried out when the leaf blades grow to marketable ripeness. If the seeds are sown early and well developed, the onions can be cut in the first year and do 1-2 harvests, in the second year the number of cuts increases to 3-4. After cutting, the onions need to be watered and fed. The greens of the batun onion are used as a seasoning for various dishes; fresh vegetable salads are also prepared from it in vegetable oil, with sour cream, mayonnaise and other spices. Onion-batun is used in folk medicine to relieve hypertension, improve the elasticity of capillary vessels.
