Perennial medicinal herb of grayish color. Forms one or more shoots. Stems are erect, branching, reddish, 50-160 cm high. The leaves are dark green, 6-12 cm long, grayish below, the lower ones are rounded five-lobed, the middle ones are elongated-elliptical, the upper ones are three-lobed or whole. The flowers are pink, collected in false whorls in the axils of the upper leaves. The medicinal raw material is grass, which is harvested during flowering in July, cut off the tops without thick lower stems, and quickly dried in a well-ventilated area without access to sunlight. Motherwort drugs have sedative properties, lower blood pressure and slow down the heart rate. The action is close to valerian. Motherwort is a part of many medicinal mixtures and teas.
