L.) A perennial loose shrub plant of the winter type of development. On light soils, it often gives a creeping rhizome. It grows in many natural meadows with all types of soils and under varying humidity conditions. Red fescue grows relatively slowly in the year of sowing. It has very thin and narrow leaves and a high density of shoots. It grows well under various conditions, but is especially noted for its drought tolerance and rather poor soils. Very frost and drought resistant. It can carry some water on the surface of the lawn in winter. Shades better than most other herbs. One of the main components of all lawn grass mixtures. There are three types of red fescue for lawns: Red fescue (Festuca. Rubra subsp. Rubra) is the most adaptable of the three types. Forming strong underground shoots, it can quickly cover the resulting empty spaces on the lawn. Tolerates extreme summer temperatures better than other types of red fescue. Red fescue takes root faster than other types. Can be used alone or in conjunction with other types of fescue to ensure a healthy lawn. Red hair fescue (Festuca rubra trichophylla) has shorter underground shoots. The high density of the shoots allows this type of grass to tolerate low mowing. High tolerance to salinity makes it suitable for sowing on roadsides. Red hair fescue is more resistant to drought and shade tolerance than other types of fescue. Red fescue (Festuca rubra commutata) grows in dense sod. Does not form shoots. The leaves of altered red fescue are tough, bristly, with a tubular, rather than open, sheath, like those of sheep and fescue. Withstands short haircuts, although after cutting the tips of the leaves may lose color. Drought-resistant. Meadow bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) A perennial rhizome-loose shrub grass of the winter type of development. It is often found naturally growing on soils rich in minerals and humus, both in the northern and southern hemispheres. Meadow bluegrass is a viable herb with strong underground shoots and erect leafy shoots. It begins to grow in early spring. Meadow bluegrass tolerates trampling well. Thanks to underground shoots, it can recover from major damage. It tolerates heat well, making Meadowgrass a suitable partner in mixtures with Reed Fescue.
