An annual highly branching plant from the Aster family, 50-100 cm high. It blooms profusely from July until frost. Chamomile-shaped inflorescences are large (10-12 cm in diameter) of white, pink, red, burgundy color. The petals are originally folded, resembling seashells in shape. Cold-hardy and light-requiring, relatively drought-resistant. Undemanding to soils, prefers loose, moderately fertile soils. Grown by direct sowing in the ground in late April-early May, or before winter. It is used for planting in flower beds, in mixborders for decorating fences and walls of buildings.
