An annual herbaceous, strongly branching plant from the Astrovye family, 120 cm high. It blooms profusely from July until frost. The flowers are double, large (10-12 cm in diameter) of white, pink, red, burgundy color. Cold-hardy and light-requiring, relatively drought-resistant. Undemanding to soils, prefers loose, moderately fertile soils. Grown by direct sowing in the ground in late April-early May, or before winter. It is used for planting in flower beds, in mixborders for decorating fences and walls of buildings, planted as a background border. It spreads successfully by self-seeding.
