Herbaceous perennial, used as an annual. Forms branchy, compact or creeping bushes 25-40 cm tall. The stem is straight, thin with numerous shoots, the leaves are dissected, gray from a wax coating, resembling wormwood leaves. Flowers are solitary, cupped, 5-8 cm in diameter, shiny bright orange. Escholzia flowers open only in the sun. The petals are shiny, smooth or somewhat corrugated. Abundant flowering from June to October.
