Tamarind is an evergreen, tropical tree of the legume family, it is the only legume tree, Tamarindus indica (Caesalpinioideae). Tall (up to 30 m), beautiful fruit tamarind plant, with a powerful trunk up to 1 meter in diameter and with a branchy spreading crown. The leaves of the tamarind tree consist of many thin leaves, outwardly they resemble acacia. During flowering, tamarind is decorated with beautiful pink flowers, usually consisting of five petals collected in inflorescences. Pollination of the plant occurs with the help of insects. In nature, a fruit tree begins to bloom and bear fruit at the age of 7-8 years. At home, tamarind is grown as an ornamental plant. The pulp of the fruit tastes sweet and sour, the aroma is similar to a mixture of dried fruits and sweets (many are compared to marshmallow).
