Passiflora incarnata, Northern passionfruit, or apricot vine – Passiflora incarnata. Beautifully flowering, fruiting, liana, a relative of passion fruit. Used to decorate household plots. Lives in open ground, every year the aboveground part dies off, but the next year it sprouts new shoots from the root, blooms and bears fruit and the fruits ripen. Fruiting occurs in the first year. Fruits up to 9 cm in diameter, sweet and sour taste with amazing aroma. You can cut off the aboveground part for the winter and bring the roots into the cellar. The roots themselves can withstand up to 18 degrees of frost. Of the vast variety of species in the passionflower family, it is the most famous of its kind for its unique healing properties, which were known to the indigenous people of North America, long before the European conquerors. The entire green part of the plant (stem, leaves) is brewed into tea for a soothing effect. Well-known sedatives are produced from the leaves of this variety.
