Like all crocuses of this species, Sativus blooms in September-October for a short time (8-10 days), but abundantly. Narrow dark green leaves up to 30 cm high appear in spring. Another name for autumn-blooming crocuses is saffron; the stigmas of the flower are used to produce this popular spice. If spring crocuses are unpretentious, then autumn-flowering ones prefer sunny places, this must be taken into account when planting, which is carried out in spring, when the soil warms up, or in August – then there is a chance to see flowering in a month. Crocuses Sativus, like other species of this flower, are winter-hardy, look great in any planting: on a flower bed, an alpine hill, in a curb, they prefer loose soils, do not tolerate stagnant water.
