Annual, luffa leaves with a cylindrical (washcloth) are extremely rich in carotene: it is 1.5 times more than in carrots or sweet peppers. They are also high in iron, vitamin C and protein. Washcloths are made from the fibrous tissue formed during the ripening of the fruit. Such a washcloth not only washes, but also massages the body. Portuguese sailors were the first to notice this. To get a washcloth, the fruits must be picked green (they are softer) or brown. It is dried for several weeks, then soaked in water for 3 to 7 days to soften the peel, which is then peeled off, and the inner fibers are peeled from the pulp with a stiff brush. The washcloth is washed several times in soapy water, rinsed, dried in the sun, and then cut into pieces of the desired size. These fruits can also be eaten as it is most commonly found in Asian cuisine. Luffa tastes like ripe cucumbers or zucchini. Young leaves, shoots, buds and flowers are prepared for garnish, lightly extinguished and seasoned with oil.
