Riviera potatoes – a super early Dutch variety. Riviera bushes are low, semi-erect, medium-sized leaves, light green, wavy along the edge. 10-12 tubers are formed under each bush. The peel of the potato is light beige, thick and dense, its surface is smooth, with a slight roughness. The tubers are oval, less often they have a rounded shape, the average weight is 100–170 g. The eyes are superficial, almost invisible, their depth is very small. The pulp is grainy, creamy, boiled well. The starch content is in the range of 11.5-15.9%. The variety is resistant to the causative agent of potato cancer, golden potato cyst nematode, banded mosaic. But it is susceptible to late blight, especially if the crop was harvested too late or in violation of agricultural technology. Peculiarities of cultivation When growing the Riviera in the usual way, the technology practically does not differ from the traditional one. However, to obtain earlier seedlings, tubers must be planted as sprouted. About a month before the intended planting, the potatoes are laid out in boxes with holes for ventilation and placed in a bright, warm room. During the germination period, the tubers are periodically turned over, and after complete germination, they are planted in the ground. To protect the tubers from pests and fungi that are contained in the soil, they should be treated with a fungicidal agent before planting. Potatoes are planted to a depth of 5–6 cm, the distance between the bushes is 30 cm, and the distance between the rows is 70 cm. The Riviera is planted in mid-late April, when the soil is already sufficiently warmed up. The Riviera variety practically does not need watering – it should only be carried out during severe drought. It is not difficult to determine the need for watering: if the leaves of the plants begin to fade, and the soil at a depth of 5 cm is dry, moisture is needed. Care for the planted potatoes is also standard: it is necessary to spill it in a timely manner, prevent the appearance of the Colorado potato beetle and get rid of weeds. The first hilling is carried out when the plant stems reach 14-17 cm in height, the second – after 2-3 weeks. When growing potatoes under straw, there is no need for hilling. Weeds are pulled out as they emerge. Disease prevention. Preventive measures play an important role – for example, to prevent the appearance of the Colorado potato beetle on the bushes, periodic spraying of tops with ash infusion (2 liters of ash per 10 liters of water) or elecampane should be carried out (100–150 g of dry crushed roots are poured with boiling water, insisted for a day and diluted to 10 liters). Such manipulations are carried out at least 3 times per season, the first spraying is carried out when the height of the potato tops reaches 10-15 cm. To avoid the defeat of the Riviera by late blight, it is imperative to carry out preventive treatments according to the following scheme: treatment with 1% Bordeaux liquid, copper sulfate, copper sulfate or Fitosporin-M (dilute according to the instructions on the package). Before flowering, be sure to treat the plants with Oxygumat, Epin or Exiol. After a couple of weeks, spray with contact fungicides (Efal, Ditan M-45, copper oxychloride). If there are no signs of late blight infection and the treatment is of a purely preventive nature, reduce the dosage of the drug indicated on the package by half. After flowering, spray the tops with Bravo twice with an interval of 7-10 days between treatments. At the stage of tubers ripening, it is advisable to carry out treatment with Alufit. Choose a cloudy day for spraying. If it rains after treatment, it should be repeated. Potato tops are processed until they die completely.
