Businessman Sasha – the owner of a red suitcase and the same red car – is an excellent specialist. A little more – and his success will lead him to the coveted Forbes list. He has a keen sense of humor, a strong professional grip and a very gentle soul. But, like many successful people, he rarely walks. Because Sasha is so plump and important. And our early ripening daikon Sasha is just as round, sweet, but with a slight edge. The fruit is tender, crispy and very juicy! And if you pick up light and fertile soil for Sasha’s daikon, the harvest will grow like the income of businessman Sasha! Daikon Sasha was created by the All-Russian Research Institute of Selection and Seed Production of Vegetable Crops. It got its name in honor of the honored breeder Alexander Stepanovich Agapov. In this early maturing variety, the root crop weighing 200 to 400 grams has a round or oblong shape. Usually, half of its length is located below the soil surface. Thanks to the blunt tip, it is easy to remove from the soil and, unlike varieties with long roots, this work is easy to do even without the aid of a pitchfork. At the same time, the pulp of the root crop is elastic, juicy and tender. Advantages of the Sasha variety: – good resistance to premature steming and mucous bacteriosis; – increased cold resistance; – early maturity; – seeds remain viable for up to 8 years; – uniform yield of the crop; – great taste of root vegetables; – suitable for growing in all regions of our country. The only drawback of the variety is its poor keeping quality. After harvesting, it is advisable to consume the root crops within a month, otherwise they will lose their juiciness. But due to their small size, they are convenient to use in salads and other dishes. Landing dates. The variety belongs to super early ripening and forms a marketable root crop in 35-45 days from the moment of full germination. Therefore, in central Russia, it is sown with seeds in open ground until August 10. Unstable temperature conditions cause thickening of the root crop in its lower part. As a result, it becomes pear-shaped, and the flesh becomes very coarse. There are two terms for sowing crops – early spring and summer. At the same time, it is the July sowing that gives the best yield. This is due to the fact that the daikon reacts to long daylight hours with the formation of peduncles, and not a crop. In addition, in May, the years of the cruciferous flea and cabbage fly begin, which happily eat the delicate leaves of all cruciferous plants. The second part of summer is the most favorable for the daikon in terms of climatic conditions. By mid-July, the length of daylight hours decreases and the sun is no longer so aggressive. Landing. Since daikon Sasha produces miniature roots, it is usually grown according to the scheme of 20-30 x 15-20 centimeters. The seeding depth is 2 – 4 centimeters. For the sake of ease of maintenance, I recommend making the width of the beds no more than one meter. Despite the fact that the variety has a short root crop, it is better to grow it in areas with a thick arable layer and highly fertile soil. In places with a surface location of groundwater, it is more convenient to place the vegetable on raised ridges. At the same time, when laying such a bed, you cannot use young manure or large doses of humus. It is good to sow Daikon after legumes (peas, beans), greens, onions and summer siderates. And since the plants develop slowly in the first week after germination, Sasha is often sown between rows of onions even before lodging. Thus, the smell of onions defuses all kinds of harmful insects from the garden, and onion feathers shade young seedlings a little from the hot midday sun.
